International Friendly against Iceland needs Caribbean support
Caribbean football fans are being implored to support minnows Trinidad
& Tobago in late February on the eve of their World Cup journey. The
message comes from Dennis Lawrence, the man who etched his name in T&T
football history when he scored the winning goal against Bahrain in the
winner-takes-all second leg play-off last November.
English football fans get their first chance to pay homage to the team
dubbed the ‘Soca Warriors’ when they play Iceland in a friendly
international on February 28.
The match, at Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road ground, falls ironically
on Carnival Tuesday, the day that the famed Trinidad carnival reaches
its climax.
Lawrence is hopeful Caribbean football fans will show their support for
the team starting at Loftus Road.
“I
think Iceland is going to be a great game for us. The Iceland game takes
places in the middle of London you can’t ask for anything better.
Iceland have got good players. They have got Eidur Gudjohnsen and players
like that. So I think it is going to be a really good game for us and
one by which people can benefit from."
Lawrence, who joined Wrexham in 2001 for a modest £100,000,
said: “We are one of the smallest nations ever to have qualified
for the World Cup and this is one of the best opportunities we have got
to go and change people’s views about Trinidad & Tobago ...".Tickets
are now availiable from the Queens Park Rangers stadium at a cost of £20
for adults. T&T fans are to occupy sections E, F and G of the stadium.
The Trinis in London.com photographers will be there for the exclusive
pics and a bag of noise to show your support. Remember that RED is the
colour of the day. See our forum for more details and to pledge your support.
