Fakekou (Sterling Callender) is in Trinidad & Tobago for the 2008 Carnival season.
He has released a very catchy Soca/Rapso number by the name of MUD, which captures the atmosphere of the Jouvert morning mayhem, both at home and abroad.
A very professionally done video, which was shot in the location of Marabella, south Trinidad, where Fakekou is originally from, has also been released. It graphically portrays the popular adorning of bodies with mud, chocolate and/or powder in the early hours of Carnival Monday morning, and the enjoyment derived from the whole Jouvert morning experience.
The song, as well as the video, has been getting airplay on radio and television stations in both islands and Fakekou has also been featured in several newspaper articles. The feedback has been very positive!
Fakekou also entered the International Soca Monarch competition and is touring T&T, opening for big acts such as Super Blue, Crazy, Preacher, Shurwayne Winchester, and Johnny King, to name a few. He has appeared on Allison Hennessey’s morning show on NCC; Win TV; Channel 5 in Tobago; and is scheduled for appearances on Synergy and Gayelle TV. He has also been interviewed on T&T’s most popular radio stations, including Iwer George’s Soca Bashment; Gladiator; Talk City; and WACK FM, which has allowed him exposure throughout the Caribbean, South America and Europe.
Listeners have compared the track to a 3 Canal-style song so are amazed to hear it is written and sung by Fakekou, and have rated his musical talent up there with the very best of them. Even though this is his debut single for Carnival, mention must be made of his memorable contribution to the T&T Soca Warriors historical presence at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, with the hit “Kick De Ball”.
Other than being kept busy with all the appearances and marketing for the CD and video, Fakekou has also taken on the very enterprising task of bringing out a section featuring mud, chocolate and powder in a popular Jouvert morning band in San Fernando, south Trinidad. He will also be performing “on the road”. Fakekou T-shirts and bandanas from his clothing line along with posters are already being printed up and distributed/marketed for this occasion.
The very positive reception Fakekou has been receiving here in T&T will surely continue at the Carnival celebrations throughout the Caribbean, U.S.A. and U.K. in 2008 and in the future as he continues to release hits.
