So much so that 200 members of the Trinidad & Tobago supporters’ club are planning an April visit to the Stadium of Light. And they want to bring their drums! The promotion battle is so tight that nothing will be settled by then. But if laid-back pals Yorke and John have anything to do with it, the nerves will not be jangling either. Both scored in this mammoth win at The Hawthorns and both took an age to emerge from the dressing room afterwards. The smiles stretched from ear to ear, as always. John joked: “Dwight’s more laid back than me — he’s horizontal! “He is always last everywhere and I’m kind of in between. “It’s a really key time for teams who are knocking on the door of the Premiership and the manager knows the players he has brought in can be calm. “Dwight and I have played together for so many years that we just gel together. “Dwight and Carlos settled in straight away and I’m settling in.” Sunderland fans made them feel at home by displaying a T & T flag. And John, who joined in January from Coventry, declared: “When you see that it gives you goosebumps. “This was a massive win for the team. West Brom have been playing really fantastic football and for us to come here and get a victory just shows you the attitude of the players — we want to win. “Having Roy Keane as a gaffer, he has won everything there is to win. “Sometimes you are overwhelmed that he is the manager. “I’ve played against him a few times but he’s very different as a manager. He’s still so competitive. “Even when he joins in training with us he wants to win all the time.” This match was all about winning as well, on a day when the reality did not live up to the billing. |
